We create the whole of our reality!

I want to share something that happened to me this week. I have recently set up my Sydney apartment to go on Airbnb when I am not using it. In the week leading up to having my first guests I wasn’t really operating fully in my power, I was in what I would call “my stuff”, which essentially means that my vibration wasn’t as high as it can be.

I recall having some angst about my first guests. Will they like my apartment? Will they look after it? And I know I had some negative thoughts about “what if they trashed it?” but I also had a recurring thought about keys, the hoo ha of accessing keys and I do recall thoughts around what if keys are lost.

So my guests came on time and messaged me that they loved the apartment and I asked them to leave the keys in the locked letterbox when they departed on Sunday, which they did.

I returned on Monday and got to my letterbox I noticed all the letterboxes had been jimmied open and all contents spilled onto the street. To my absolute horror the realisation hit me that that my keys were gone including the garage remote and they must surely know which apartment the keys belong too.

I went up to the apartment wondering what on earth I would discover, I entered and the first thing I saw was an odd blanket on my sofa, but everything else seemed find and left very well. I feel relief but I did wonder about the blanket and wasn’t sure if anyone else had been in the apartment. I immediately called a locksmith had the new deadlock put on and the locks changed and I called the police who were there within the hour. Turns out that they had also broken into the garages.

So why am I sharing this story? I first went into the victim way of thinking, “oh why did this happen to me?”, and “why would someone break into our letterboxes?”

Then I remembered. I create the whole of my reality. I realised I had created this very experience. It took me a little bit to get there, but once I did I was able to take personal responsibility for what happened and by doing so it also helped me move into a state of appreciation for the fact that they hadn’t entered my apartment, it helped me appreciate the work the police do as well the quick response from them and the locksmith.

So whilst its been an inconvenience around keys (as I created) and a cost for the locksmith, it’s been a very good lesson for me on mindfulness and taking responsibility.

So watch those thoughts!

The more you can shift focus on what you want, the more of want you want will show up. But as you can see from this example, if you are thinking about what you don’t want then that will show up as well.

Oh and by the way the blanket had been left by my Airbnb guest.
